Constipation in children

Constipation is common condition that’s found in a lot of children. Most people ignore it and in the end the children suffer for quite some time. Constipation is essentially when a child goes for more than 2-3 days without passing stool, it differs from child to child.

Signs that your child is constipated:
  1. Straining when passing stool.
  2. If there is a lot of crying or obvious discomforts as they pass stool.
  3. Hard, pellet like stool or very large stool, sometimes that even blocks the toilet.
  4. Fussy eaters after not passing stool for a prolonged period of time.
  5. Vomiting.
  6. Abdominal distension.
Causes of constipation.

The cause is unknown in most children, but for a few there maybe underlying medical conditions that may lead to constipation. Therefore its always essential to have your child looked at.

Some of the ways to remedy constipation while at home:
  • To make sure your child is taking high fiber diet. Lots of fruits and veggies.
  • Reduce the amount of refined foods that you give your child.
  • Lots of fluid.
  • Stay active.


If these few tips and tricks don’t work, its always essential to take them to your doctor so that they can be checked out properly and when need be, they are put on medication to help them. It is always important for your child to pass regular stool as this will give you a healthy happy baby.
